Missouri Airplane Crash Leaves Pilot, Journalist with Minor Injuries

A small aircraft that crash-landed at Cape Girardeau Regional Airport recently left the plane’s pilot and a journalist who was riding along with minor injuries, according to an article in the Southeast Missourian.

The reporter, who covers entertainment news for The Missourian, was on the plane to gather notes for an article on small aircraft flights. According to witnesses, the plane was making a low pass-by of the airport when it continued to lose altitude. It eventually landed belly-up in the grass near the runway, skidding some distance and making a full turn before coming to a stop.

The two men in the plane were able to walk away from the accident, although they were checked out at a local hospital before going home. Meanwhile, fire crews made sure that a leak in the plane’s oil line did not spread or cause a fire.

Scooter Collides With Pickup, Leaves Missouri Woman Injured

A Cape Girardeau traffic accident left a college student in critical condition at a St. Louis hospital after her scooter collided with a pickup truck, according to a recent news report from KFVS. She has not regained consciousness, but doctors remain optimistic that her condition will improve.

The accident occurred at the corner of Normal Street and Sprigg Street near the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. Intersections are a common scene for accidents, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The NHTSA estimates that about 36 percent of all accidents in the U.S. each year take place at intersections.

Whether drivers are turning left, going straight, or turning right, each action creates conditions in which a collision can occur. Inadequate signals, improper lighting, construction, obstacles on corners, and other factors can all play a role in intersection accidents. The NHTSA estimates that driver error plays a role in up to 96 percent of intersection crashes, making attentiveness a key part of navigating intersections safely.

With Back-to-School Events in Full Swing in Missouri, Think 15-Passenger Van Safety

van-15-passenger_wiki.jpgFifteen-passenger vans are a popular way to move sports teams, extracurricular groups, church groups, and others when passenger cars don’t have enough seats but a full-sized bus isn’t necessary. While these vans can be very useful, they also pose particular safety risks. If you’re using a fifteen-passenger van this school year, keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • Check the tires. Fifteen-passenger vans handle most safely when their tires are properly inflated and are in good condition, with good tread and no bald, stiff, or shiny spots. Check the van’s tires every time you drive.
  • Always wear seat belts. Fifteen-passenger vans have a high risk of rolling over in an accident. The best protection against death in a rollover is wearing a seat belt, so require all passengers and the driver to wear a seat belt whenever the van is moving.
  • Load cargo and passengers front to back. The van is more likely to roll when it is carrying weight over the rear axle. To reduce the risk of a rollover, load passengers and cargo front to back, keeping the weight forward of the rear axle whenever possible.
  • Train drivers. Fifteen-passenger vans handle differently than passenger vehicles and pose different risks on the road. When possible, ensure drivers have the training they need to meet the challenges that fifteen-passenger vans pose.

Fifteen-passenger van accidents can cause serious injuries or even death, especially if the van rolls over. At Page Law, our aggressive van accident attorneys in Franklin County can help you fight for and win the compensation you need. Lake of the Ozarks Boat Accident Sends Five to Hospital

A serious Missouri boating accident on the Lake of the Ozarks recently tossed seven people into the water, according to an article in the Columbia Tribune. Five of the people involved in the accident had to be taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries.

The accident took place during events leading up to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, which is known as the “largest unsanctioned boat race in the United States.” It was captured on camera by a boater who was setting up his film equipment in preparation for the event.

The boat was heading across the lake to a restaurant and had a full complement of passengers. The watercraft was traveling at a high speed when it began to rock as it hit a series of choppy waves, tossing passengers back and forth and convincing witnesses that the boat might tip over. Five of the passengers lost their balance and fell overboard, and when the boat slowed and regained control, those still on board discovered quite a bit of water in the bottom due to the bumpy ride.

Is Your Transvaginal Mesh Bothering You?

When it comes to health, there is nothing more important. People need to be in good health in order to spend time with their loved ones, work, and enjoy life in general. Those that have surgery have done so to correct a medical problem and expect to have their quality of life restored. For the women that have had transvaginal mesh surgically placed in their bodies, their quality of life has not been the best.woman_11113485.jpg

What is Transvaginal Mesh?
Transvaginal mesh is a medical mesh that is inserted vaginally or through an incision to help treat many different medical issues. The most common medical issues it has been used to treat are pelvic organ prolapse and stress urinary incontinence. According to medical dictionaries, pelvic organ prolapse happens when a pelvic organ moves from its normal spot, dropping lower and pushing against the walls of the vagina. Stress urinary incontinence is the loss of urine due to movement such as coughing, sneezing, or anything that puts additional stress on the bladder.

When this mesh is surgically inserted into a woman, it is inserted to support the weakened muscles. With this mesh being inserted to do such an important job, it can have horrible results when it doesn't work as it should. In 2008, there were reports to the FDA of concerns with transvaginal mesh and after surgery complications. Because there was no recall in effect, the manufacturers of this product continued to sell their product, advertising it as the best way to treat pelvic prolapse or stress urinary incontinence. It is a decision that has left devastating results.
